High Pasture Cave forum 2 room

Well as another artist joins the forum - welcome Summerland - a sort of artistic cultural experience in Edinburgh would'nt go amiss.....

"There is a cave in the foothills of the Red Cuillin on Skye where there are the fragmented signs of human life stretching back to the Iron Age 2,000 years ago. It’s hard to imagine how we can connect with people living so long ago and in such elemental surroundings. But walk into a dark room at the Royal Scottish Academy at the foot of the Mound in Edinburgh and see and hear how it can be done.

The Uamh an Ard Achadh or High Pasture Cave is the inspiration for the latest work from Gill Russell, the artist in residence at Sabhal Mor Ostaig, the Gaelic College on Skye.

She has ventured into this 320 metre long system of caves and brought out a series of images and sounds which amount to a dialogue not just with the past but with infinity.

You enter the “cave”, wait till your eyes adjust to the darkness, and you are presented with three images lit in purple light and the sounds of dripping water, then running water, or wind blowing over the cave mouth or is it the sound of a bear hibernating or is it ancient people moving about and talking in low voices?"

It continues.......

Thank you! :-D

Oh now that sounds wonderful! I hadn't heard about it at all - looking at the calendar now to work out how on earth I can get down to Edinburgh before the end of the month, hmm...

Have just liked the Royal Academy on Facebook and there's a few pics there... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Royal-Scottish-Academy-RSA/257767550223?v=wall#!/album.php?aid=593957&id=257767550223

Must tell one of my clients, she was digging at High Pasture over last Summer, bet she would be interested too.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Many years of fieldwork reports, photos and updates on Uamh an Ard Achadh to be found here.

I can never get their virtual tour to move beyond the second photo! There is also information (scroll to the bottom of the home page) on Uamh an Eich Bhric (Cave of the Speckled Horses).

Looking forward to a wee trip up to the RSA this weekend.
