Indeed i have seen more definate cup marks, but the thing about Newbarns and the area surrounding is the stone type, which is granite. A similar problem to other areas, where all you find is cups. I think that most of the cups are man made, though getting the age for them is slightly harder, given the occupation of the site goes from 4000bc through to 1400ad..interesting finds though.

The marks that are beside the red cross, in the image, are flaws in the rock - perhaps where fossilised shells have lain. The round hole, in a couple of the pictures, has been carved however. I don't know why these holes were made and there has been an explanation that they were used for capturing spirit in sorcery.
