Lots to think about, cheers for that.

I am (inevitably) dubious about my leg, so if any of these routes are less punishing in terms of knee-bending, that might be worth knowing.

Also, any routes that would come with shade? :)

As you know I've had to be very careful about how much I take on for more than I care to recall now...... so....

If I was doing this - and I would like to once more..... maybe - I'd take the path shown in the pic up Tryfan (assuming you can make it out), as far as I'm aware the 'easier' way up. Curse me as much as you want during the climb, if it helps.

Bwlch Tryfan is to the extreme right in the pic. Trend to the left at Bristly Ridge to head for Glyder Fach summit and then.... it depends on your leg and the weather. Do the traverse and descend to Idwal, or go down Y Gribin. Either is magical. If cloud sweeps in suggest you take a bearing and get the hell outta there!

Brilliant, thanks for the suggestions (that is a lovely picture).

I shall mainly be cursing - or praying to - the rock gods/leg gods/sun gods I think.

Cloud? In Wales? In July 2013? Have you been outside man? Don't worry, I'll take nothing for granted :)

South Ridge looks like it might be the easiest route up, but the book says "limited views" on the way up.

Bristly Ridge looks somewhat terrifying though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJKcQ3uRlBw

Nice blog about the ascent from the west, two viewpoints of the same family group.

We went the way you suggested, and ended up coming back down there too. It is an easy route, no real scrambling until we left Bwlch Tryfan. The heat made it very tiring though. I had hoped to descend along the eastern ridges, but time and tiredness have left that for another day.

Bristly still looks impossible!

We didn't do any leaping, you'll be unsurprised to learn. What a place though, fabulous doesn't cover it. Some pics will follow in due course :)
