here seems to be quite a bit of prehistoric archaeology in Antrim but not actually by the Giant's Causeway. It is, however, part of the ancient kingdom of Dalriada (Dal Riata) which extended to the Inner Hebrides and the west coast of Scotland.
Dalriada

I found the link posted by Nigel Swift with regard to a nearby golf course development disconcerting and the National Trust in N.I. are making a brave stand against it. This surely must be a place to keep wild and natural.

You can obviously see why the legend started... the columns looked man made - if not 'giant made' - to my 21st century brain, so goodness knows what prehistoric peoples crossing to Kintyre and back would've made of it. The assumption seems logical from their viewpoint, doesn't it?

I really think we all need to make a stand against the march of golf... I'll continue to do my bit!

Things don't look very hopeful with regard to the golf course - it went to judicial review on the 9th January and Alex Attwood, Environmental Minister for N.I., is due to make a decision by the end of January. As it was him that gave the go ahead in the first place it seems unlikely he will overturn it.

This is a bit of a killer statement by Dr Hanna isn't it:-

"The location of the resort is more sensitively appropriate than much of what the NT itself has seen fit to build within the confines of the World Heritage Site. The buildings are 1.5 miles from the Causeway, will be totally invisible to it and will provide a place for visitors to stay in a five-star resort with lots of activities to keep them in the area.

1.5 miles away, how far away is the new stonehenge visitors centre. ?

He would say something like that wouldn't he - as it is his development that is being challenged. Here is the NT's statement to balance things up.
