Does anybody know if and when more archaeological inventories are being published? Mr Bawn79 informed me that a South Tipp and Limerick inventory are in the works but what about other counties. I'm particularly looking out for the Kilkenny and Kildare editions.

Any other good books for counties that have no inventory yet?

There are the humungous Megalithic Surveys:

Volume 1 - Clare
Volume II - Mayo
Volume III - Galway, Roscommon, Leitrim, Longford, Westmeath, Laoighis, Offaly, Kildare & Cavan
Volume IV - Cork, Kerry, Limerick & Tipperary
Volume V - Sligo
Volume VI - Donegal

Some of these are quite hard to get hold of now.

There is also the rather rare A Preliminary Survey of the Ancient Monuments of Northern Ireland, published in 1940. A good copy will set you back a bit now. It's probably in the bigger libraries. There's a battered copy on abebooks at the moment for £21.

It is in no way comprehensive, but includes most of the megalithic tombs in the north.

There are some interesting monologues in the Discovery series, too: http://www.discoveryprogramme.ie/publication_mono.html

They'll come in handy. By the time they get all the inventories out...it will time to work on second editions! It's a mammoth task.
