Does anybody know the megalithic tomb located in Ballywilliam in co. Offaly (OS 127 986)? I tried to get there today but it is on private land and nobody was in. It's not listed on this site (I will add the site when I finally get there) and not on any others. The 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' lists it as an 'unclassified megalithic tomb' and describes it as having three orthostats that form the side of a chamber. There are other stones at the site but these may not be in situ. Anybody have any theories as to what type of tomb it could be? Has anybody else been there?
Im afraid I havent heard of it but Im sure if its listed as still in there by the Inventory then Im sure it still exists.
If it was completely destroyed that would be mentioned, of course it may have been destroyed since it the Inventory was completed but odds of that are low im sure.

Offaly isnt great for megaliths really is it?

No, there are only two listed and they are both unclassified and described as being in a poor condition which is half the reason I want to get there since they are rare in Offaly...I have read elsewhere that there are a few mounds which are likely to have tombs underneath but these remain unexcavated.
