If you are partial to a stone circle or two or a few pieces of rock art, then south-west Cork & Kerry is literally jammed full of amazing stuff, for tombs and wierd landscapes then the Burren in Co. Clare is hard to beat and everyone has to experience the Boyne Valley, Loughcrew and Tara once in a lifetime. These would be very concentrated groups of monuments where you could see a huge amount in a couple of days.

Depending on whether these areas had whetted your appetite or worn you out, the next areas on my list would be Sligo/South Donegal for some amazing passage and court tombs and Tyrone for some oddities and well preserved tombs, stone circles and passage tomb art.

I'm sure something would be organised for a meet up and because we're not huge in numbers it might be possible to keep dates flexible.

The others will have seen a far bigger range of sites than I have. Lethargy, but no, I'm telling myself micro-examination has kept me local to Cork.

Five spots, if I had to choose though, would be, moving sun-wise (of course) from the Rosslare area; East Coast Portal Dolmens (touch the sky), West Cork (ah the green green grass of home), Clare (check this trend; http://heritageaction.wordpress.com/2009/10/02/poulnabrone-co-clare-damage-to-landscape-by-dolmen-copiers/), Sligo (Carrowkeel, Carrowmore) and the Boyne/Loughcrew.

I made some muttering about doing point this time, but I'd be easily dissuaded ;) Shuffle, shuffle.

I'd love to show people Antrim, but it's a long way for everyone. I fell in love with the place whilst writing my last book.

Of course, as I'm currently writing the Mayo volume I might be as in love with Mayo soon :-)

Carrowkeel/Carrowmore would be a great place to head for next year. If we can make it a two day job we could go to north Sligo & south Donegal too (or maybe the amazing Malin More area).
