Calling Bawn — sites near Ballina

Hey Bawn

Just been reading some of your Mayo field notes and noticed on the notes for Graves of the Leinstermen that you mention this being your home area.

I am visiting family in Ballina in August and just wondered what you would suggest would be the best sites to check out? From your notes, many of them seem either ruined or hard to find. The main consideration is this; I will have my mum with me!!! She's in her late 60s but quite fit and is adamant that she wants to have a poke around in fields with me (I am not convinced by this though!)

I may be able to get a half day away on my own but will mainly be around Ballina/Attymass area and have a car at my disposal. I was also going to check out the Ceide Fields - any tips?

Hi Vic,

Sorry but Im no use to you. There are two Ballinas, the one Im from is in Co. Tipperary (the real Ballina!). The only place Ive been to in Mayo is the Boheh stone near Westport. That must be an hour and a half from Ballina.
Id say Mr. Fourwinds might be able to help more than I.
