Anyone heading to Newgrange for the 21st? I know it aint the actual solstice date but the 'ritual' meeting up tradition is also important :)

Weather looks pretty darn good at the moment, its also looking very clear in Cork, I'm planning to be at Drombeg tomorrow evening for sunset, failing that either the stone row at Cabragh or the circle at Clodagh both have winter solstice sunset sightlines. Eightercua in Kerry is another option for those who may be way out west. If it all falls foul tomorrow I might take that crazy trip from Newgrange to Drombeg on Thurs instead!

Im not going to make it up this year. I have my xmas party in dublin tomorrow night. Im taking the solstice as being the 22nd (mainly coz it suits me this year) and should hopefully see the sunrise from a beach near killiney (if I can get up), heading back down to Cork later on the 22nd and Im going to head to Drombeg to watch the sunset (mainly because I roughly know where it is and its well signed posted as far as I know), Saturday morning Im going to head up to the stone circle in Baurnaglanna and if I can talk someone into it coming with me I hope to post them up at Baurnadroomey (still cant spell it). Anyway that is what I will be doing in theory.

http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/54329 I quickly processed this on my laptop with its crappy LCD, more and hopefully better pics to follow.

There was a few people down to see the sunset today, all looked great until the decisive moment when some clouds obscured direct sunlight through the notch, would be a really fine sight on a clear day so might perhaps head back down on Saturday evening.

Sitting in the Celtic Ross Hotel lobby now getting a caffeine dose for the drive home! An early start tomorrow, hopefully the sun will shine.

Enjoy the solstice anyway, whatever your doing :)
