Sorry pressed Post Message too soon! There is also The Hill of Tara if you fancy heading back over towards Newgrange. Did you see Knowth while you were there? There's also Dowth around the corner which is more ambient and free!

If you are looking for a bit of Early Xtian stuff then Clonmacnoise is a nice place for a quiet day out.

Yes only did Newgrange / Knowth which were very interesting despite the 'guided tour' nature of the visit. Being taken into Newgrange and simulating the midwinter sunrise is definitely worth the admission price though I have to admit. Saw Dowth from a distance but wasn't sure how or if you could even get to the site - I got the impression they were 'hiding it under the carpet' as it were............

Discovered Tara, sort of by accident and was very impressed. It's a bit difficult to unravel the layers of Irish mythology that have been superimposed on the site but you are left with the impression of a hugely important sacred place predating all of it.

Thanks for the advice, will definitely get down South next time
