The way that I see the Stanton Moor situation is: Nine Ladies stone circle is not under threat. It is the nearby landscape which is about to be destroyed.

The whole of Stanton Moor is a 'ritual' landscape, with it's 4 stone circles, about 70 cairns and a few natural rock features. Although Nine Ladies is not about to be destroyed, presumably, some of these other features are (but I don't know if this is the case).

In my view, if we are to become involved, then we should address the issue of the whole 'ritual' landscape, rather than concentrating just on the situation of Nine Ladies.

That's the way I saw it Baz. Bit like Thornborough, really. But the 9 Ladies is the focus because it's the high profile bit and I think the planned quarrying does come preeetty close to it.

I'd like to think that HA will be concerned with the destruction of surrounding landscapes as well as 'monuments' themselves. I think personally that this should be the case, even if (unlike Stanton Moor and Thornborough) the landscape isn't a tangible or established 'ritual' or as I prefer to call em, 'significant' landscape.
