I have noticed that Martin did not mention the carvings near Wallace's cave in the opposite direction than towards the castle. It is maybe a bit difficult to get to, but has a nice feel when there. There are several double spirals and a few other interesting carvings. Some of the lower one's have been withered away by weather. How to get there: You find the cave (opposite the river Esk, walking down to glen from the chapel) what can be tricky - (easy to locate but have to cross river, or enter the glen from the Rosewell side). When you stand at the cave entrance, in front the river, look to the left, a big tree's root's functions as a ladder down. Walk then back to the right below the cave; go forward on this small nearly overgrown track following its small bend's and crossing over a normaly wet area (water drain/spring from above). The track will end up on a flat rock ledge where you find the carvings. Good luck. (Be aware not to slide down to the river!! , might hurt badly!!)
