Nice one Rich,
that's a crackin panel and a lovely photo. I'm with Pebbles, it brought Dod Law to mind.
I had it in my head that right angles were not really part of the British cup and ring tradition, even Dod Law has the corners 'rounded off'. Thats another notion blown away...I guess it's a case of the more we see the less we know.
That big central cup looks just about the right size to incorporate a popomatic. Anyone for shamanic ludo?

Thanks for the nice up-date of the Guisecliff Wood motif, Rich!
I only had an old photograph, taken by Maarten van Hoek.
Square motifs are rare in British rock art indeed and Hob's remark of the rounded corners makes sense.
There are old-fashioned TV's with rounded corners but also "modern" flat-screens:

One is tempted to count the cups in the squares but, as we all know, counting and measuring hasn't brought any closer to understanding so far.
I will add some more panels to the collection on BRAC today.
Please let me know if you can think of newies. Thanks!
Cheers,
Jan

We know the circles were laid out using 345 triangles - Thom adequately demonstrated that. Two of these triangles, head to tail, create a rectangle. The Neolithic 'Long Mortuary Enclosure' s were rectangular.

Aye Fitz, the joy of RA, eh? Should you ever venture into this area, see if you get a certain West Agran feeling, same topography & a maverick carver doing something a little different.
