"20 furry little bee orchids on their way out, out on the bank."

Hi Rhiannon, found my common spotted orchid at Battlefields yesterday on that piece of rough ground before the monument, there is an old stone there that looks interesting, also stones in the hedgerow across the road at Brockham End, 19th maps show stones marked at the turning into the unmade road there, as there are cleared tumuli around the area it could well be that a burial chamber, similar to Wick stood there ...speculation of course;)

Your orchid in the photo does look in lovely condition. I still haven't got round to strolling around up there by the battleground- something I intend to remedy very soon. Lansdown's so interesting don't you think because there's stuff from every era, from the mesolithic finds and the barrows, to the pilgrims' route and the intensity of the civil war battle. And then it's got these sort of timeless elements that knit it together, like the wide views and the round hill and St Alphage's well. It's no wonder it's got a bit of a strange feel sometimes.
