The Hawhaw

Isn't that a haha? I think you'll find.

Perhaps it's something to do with Hunstrete House though, some fancy landscaping?
Or perhaps it's based on a tumulus already there.
It's not marked as anything ancient on the MAGIC map, but when you zoom in it looks quite big. (obviously. But you see what I mean)

Ok you're right, so maybe a hawhaw is a variant of a haha. Maybe this one's a mound with a ditch round it.

What's a couple of w's between friends?

No, you are right, but perhaps it has a different spelling in Bawf?

Mr H

if you look on the 'old maps' webpage (click through from the os getamap page), you (well, I) can't see anything at all on that spot. The map's from about 1890. But you'd think all fancy landscaping was passe by then?

Also the map shows the place used to be called 'houndstreet' not hunstrete, should that be helpful.

by the way juamei, it's supremely irrelevant, but the other week I visited a spring not far from there (near farmborough) and it was really cool, so if you want to trudge out that way I'll tell you where it is.

I would also suggest that if we walked to Stoney Littleton from Bath for the grand sunday event, that would be interesting, but I can't swear to what I'll be doing that day (plan ahead, me, hmm)
