Hi,

I'll be in the UK and staying in Bristol from;
21 Sept till 5 Oct.
26 Sept till 30 Oct I'll be occupied with a family member with Down syndrome so are limited on these day's. But free to explore the Neolithic/Bronze age, on the others :-)

I hope some of you guy's have some suggestions.
I would like to visit stones, museums or other suggestions, and if anyone wants to meet up that's also ok, I am reliant on public transport though.

Thanks.

J.

Sorry for posting on the Cornwall and Devon discussion this was unintentional and I can't change it.

Check out Stanton Drew and Stoney Littleton for starters, the former is quite close to Bristol

Hi Jo-Anne. All the museums (apart from Commonwealth Museum) in Bristol are free. The City museum at the top of Park Street is a good place to start - they've had a good stab at covering the Neolithic.

There is a good, scenic, hillfort (iron age) in Liegh woods - have a look at web entries for the area on this site.
Like Dee says, Stanton Drew is just under 10 miles out of Bristol - it's a great henge, and never busy, while Sony Littleton is one of the nicest longbarrows that I know of.

If you want to go to Avebury, take the train from Bristol Temple Meads to Chippenham, and then the bus from the timetable on this link; http://www.kennet.gov.uk/planservices/AveburyW.nsf/avebury_transport.htm
Stoney Littleton and Stanton Drew definitely needs a car.. way out in the country.
Moss

A lot of miles added up here, I think I'll take the bus if no one minds :-)

Thanks for the suggestions, also on the museum as it can sometimes be difficult to pinpoint from the many different museums :-)

Sites to look at:

Druid Stock
Barrow on the Downs
Baddocks Barrow (Southmead) approach with caution
Blaise castle hill fort.
Mere Bank (Avonmouth)
Nuclear Stone (Oldbury)
King Offa's Tomb (Almondsbury)

Nothing super special, but all good sites in their own right. Oldbury is a nice walk along the coast.

Anyways,

Ike

I would wholeheartedly recommend Maes Knoll, it can't be too bad a walk uphill from Whitchurch on the south of the city, and the views of Bristol and all round are amazing.
