Barrow to be temp fenced off during work...

"Barrow to be preserved as open space land" - hopefully with some actual open space around it!!

That document says EH doesn't need to be notified, which implies it's not a scheduled monument, as they have to be notified for anything likely to alter the site of an ancient monument? It's apparently not on the magic map as a scheduled monument. So it'll have a bench and a bin on it in no time. Unless they build a house on it and charge more for the elevated view.

Curiously there are two 'tumuli' marked on the modern maps, one north and one south of the crewe road. But on the 1870s map there's only one, on the north. It says 'Urns &c found' which is rather quaint. But the other bump only appears as 'mound' some time after that, some time between 1900 and 1950. And then it too gets marked 'tumulus' in the 1990s? a bit weird.

Only if it's lucky, because the planners and architects think it would look pretty that way, not because "setting" has statutory protection. Even if somewhere is scheduled it's open to being Oswestrianised to buggery.
