Maybe when someone gets killed or seriously injured running the gauntlet across the road dividing the Great Circle will something be done. It beggars believe that they don't even have a lighted crossing considering all the school-kids that cross over there! EH have gates on either side for the public to pass through and will be held responsible for allowing it to happen.
Just want to add that i'm constantly amazed at the situation at Avebury, 3 areas in particular, the Ridgeway/Sanctuary crossing, the Kennet footpath where it joins up with the A4361 opposite the NT car park and the Red Lion corner are all absolutely treacherous crossings.
Agreed. The Ridgeway/Sanctuary crossing frightens the life out of me and never understood why they didn't build an underpass there when the A4 was upgraded. In effect it would have been a natural continuation of the Ridgeway and not just the 'beginning' now of a National Trail. Look right, then left and right again simply don't work here!
yep, absolute nightmare. I see there is a suggestion to narrow the carriageway. Can't see that making an awful lot of difference.

Yes I had a quick scan and noticed that. I suppose the only 'good' thing about that is that you wouldn't have as far to run...BUT, nowhere to hide if you got stuck in the middle of the road!
What puzzles me the most is that it is grown-up people sitting down and making these often stupid proposals and only one decision to make here...do we have an underpass or bridge, not narrow the effing road!
