In the Avenue excavation near the road they think they might have found a line of postholes under the bank following the direction of the Avenue. Early days yet but could one speculate that the approach to Stonehenge was originally marked by wooden poles?

Walked to the Stonehenge Bottom excavation where there were several parallel dark marks following the middle of the Avenue. I asked Mike Parker-Pearson who was excavating there what they might be. "Cart tracks" he said ruefully.
Jim.

And every posthole will be easily detectable by, unbelievable methods, but they won't listen, in their arrogance.
Unbelievable

He's a nice guy - but didn't they have carts in the Bronze Age? Funerary processional route?
