Sorry to drag up what is probably an often asked question here....

I'm looking to visit Avebury/Stonehenge/Kennets/Savernake/etc area with my family and I need some suitable, economical, accomodation for a few days.

We will be driving so we don't need to stay too local but we don't want to be too far from the action. Scouring the web I can see where not to stay (The R*d Li*n) but has anyone got any recent experience? Marlborough? Devizes? B&B? Hotel? Any little gems out there?

Hi lostinspace.

If you click on - http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/23/avebury.html and then click on 'Facilities within 20 km' you'll get some suggestions. Also have a look at the excellent Avebury website here - http://www.avebury-web.co.uk/avebury_now.html And if you type in 'Accommodation' in the SEARCH THIS BLOG box here - http://aveburymatters.blogspot.com/#uds-search-results you'll get some more suggestions.

Haven't stayed here myself but have heard that it's good (and maybe very good if you're looking for family accommodation) - http://www.bnbselect.com/bnb/38448

For the single or double visitor to Avebury, Mr and Mrs Dixon's B&B at Avebury Trusloe (one of the four semi-detached houses at the top of the hill between Avebury and the Beckhampton roundabout) is pretty good (excellent breakfast in Mrs Dixon's kitchen and only a short walk to Avebury and The Waggon and Horses at Beckhampton). The front bedroom has a view of Silbury. If you take the lanes and paths to Avebury, Silbury or the Waggon and Horses you'll miss the main road - except where you actually have to cross it.

Cheers for all your suggestions...I eventually found somewhere to stay. On my way soon. Now...what to do when I get there?.....;-)
