Thank you Moss - I wasn't aware of Heywood Sumner at all. I suppose you found this:
http://www.stracheyconservation.com/casestudiesarchive3.htm
it can't be so very far away if it's Monmouthshire?
Robin Tanner's work is rather ethereal isn't it, no straight lines and plenty of atmosphere. In my art classes I have discovered I haven't the patience for the long process of etchings! but I really want to be able to convey something of real local places as Tanner has.

Ah those lovely beads. Did you see the one from East Kennett? It looked like a delicious sweet. It's all materialism I suppose but you'd like to think that the owners really loved those possessions because of their beauty and rarity, not just for the bling factor.

Also the "eye" one, iron age glass blue bead from Swallowcliffe., some years ago a turkish student gave me some beads in the same design white on blue for luck!! it seems weird that the same design can still be found a couple of thousand years later - I think its hallstatt....
