I think this is a pretty exciting find, considering there's so little rockart to be found down South!

Although, that said, there's something different about this one that I can't quite put my finger on. It's not quite as "neat". Maybe it's just weathered differently? Or it was done by someone that visited some Northern rockart and tried to emulate it?

Or perhaps it's the oldest rockart in Britain, which kicked off the trend up North? ;)

Ooh, how annoyed would people be if it turned out it all began down South? :D

Its also tiny! It's a hand sized slab with two circles on it which can't be more than 2 inches across.

Same style as cup and ring though, plus aparently grooved ware though I don't recall seeing photos of any grooved ware with circles. I thought that was mostly linear zigzags??

Yes, but - this little stone is what's known by aficionaderos as a 'portable'. It could be carried in a pouch on a belt loop and brought out at moments of philosophical crisis, for reassurance, perhaps. So somebody probably carried it from the north of Engand, where it originated...
