Fishguard

close

hi, i will be off to Fishguard for a week soon and wondered what the people here would recomend as the best places to visit around that area are?

There is a lot to see, best option is to checkout 'sites within 20 km' of the following most popular......

http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/113/carreg_samson.html

http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/117/pentre_ifan.html

http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/112/carreg_coetan_arthur.html

It was a few years ago now, but I wrote a short weblog on the area when passing through on my way to Ireland.

See http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/user/2381/weblog/15 and scroll down to 'Ireland Excursion Pt 1'. We did that lot in a day!

There's loads. Treaclechop's blog lists most of them:

But 'must-sees' include Pentre Ifan, Carreg Coetan Arthur, the very weird Cerrig y Gof, Carreg Samson and I really like Llech-y-Drybedd (Llech-y-Tripedd).

Have fun!

If you are there when this is on you might find it interesting. The people taking the course know the local megaliths very well.

One site that stands out in my mind is Parc-y-Meirw,

It's not spectacular but there are some fantastic views towards the sea and my overriding memory is of the peace and quiet of the place. Parking is a bit of a pain though...
