We're off for a week in Pembrokeshire. Would anyone care to recommend a nice campsite that isn't full of caravans and crying children, or maybe a nice b&b where they do a nice veggie fryup. Ooh - and what would be your best megalithic spot? I've been to the obvious Pentre Ifan. But somewhere a little further off the beaten track would be fine. Thank you for your thoughts, Rh.

Hi Rhiannon
I had a lovely holiday staying at a self-catering place in Newport, Pembs 3 years ago. Here are my blogs:

Nine Wells camping site is small and basic but you can walk down to the cove there, its beautiful. You are going to find children in most places....

Gwal-y-Filiast burial chamber is 25 minutes soth-east of Gors Fawr stone circle ,last time I went the batteries went dead really quickly ,really mysteriously so new pis would be cool and youll definately be alone

A day in Harlech's never wasted ! ( http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/3434 ) Unless you're hitchhiking. The castle mound is special - somehow. Watch out for sharks being hung up under arches (around Saundersfoot).

Don't miss Tinkinswood and St. Lythans on the way across :-)

Hello,

I've been lurking for a while, reading the posts with great interst, and thought it about time to contribute something........

I was bought up in Pembrokeshire and although I don't live there now, I still visit on a regular basis (friends and family etc). So I would recommend; Gwal-y-Filiast (as already mentioned); one of my favourite spots, Bedd Arthur, right up on top of the Preselis, and while your up there it's worth checking out the hillfort on Foel Drygarn, definately a bit of a "special" place, (there's also another at Carn Alw nearby; very remote spot but worth the tough walk out there) There's an alignment at Parc-y-Meirw near Fishguard, it's only four stones (I think) and they're incorporated into a hedge, but they are HUGE!

As for camping, I believe there's a campsite in the Gwaun Valley (which is a beautiful spot), near the pub in Pontfaen (or there certainly used to be). If you're up for that kind of thing, in my experience people aren't too bothered about camping rough on the Preselis as long as you don't leave a mess and don't camp in someone's field. I'm not advertising for him, but my brother runs a business down there hiring out VW camper vans if you're into that!

Hope this helps

Going for the first time at the beginnning of September - Can't wait!

Thanks for the info guys.
