Long Meg — seeking sources for whispering folklore

Hi everyone, I am hoping you can help me, I am looking for the source of the folklore tale for Long Meg found on the wikipedia page:

"Another legend states that if you walk round the circles and count the number of stones correctly, then put your ear to Long Meg, you will hear her whisper."

I'm struggling to find a source for this, from either the original antiquaries or from a modern commentator. Any leads would be most welcome.

Hmm, you'd better ask him. He's the Megalithic Portal Person, if you're unfamiliar.

Of course, he might have copied it from wikipedia. In which case you're on a hiding to nothing :)

But even if it is a new idea, perhaps it's worth trying out I guess
