we all know that rock art is one of those things that is hard to date, especially the exposed outcrop carvings, you could argue that someone could have carved a rock a 100years ago, and it could look prehistoric, so you are right to say that some rock art might not be that old. Obviously some rock art like the carvings found inside burial areas are easier to date.
The same could be said for alot of prehistoric things, but all you can do is try and get as much evidence as you can.

I agree with your point fourwinds, but i was talking about the Popping stones, i have been there, and believe me, it is only a weathered rock on a river bank, washed down and deposited along time ago, weathered over time by the river flooding time and time again, until its in it present state, a dumpy rock. I would say that you should visit the site before making any conclusions on this stone.
