sorry Hob no pics of Balvarran , for a while I took videos instead of pics , I know "but the rock wasn't moving " , have learnt my lesson. It's quite close to the house so if visiting maybe worthwhile asking . Old Bewick was also odd in that for such an obvious big lump it was very ornate , more what you would expect on something low lying . like Balvarran it didn't appear to move much either.

I've often wondered if it wasn't more 'buried' at some point. With peat or something.

I know that feeling. I once lugged a bloody great VHS thing up the steep slope to Old Bewick.

Whilst the stones don't move, you can get a better idea of the shape and setting with moving pictures. I know it's darn inconvenient, but there's still a lot to be said for videoing old rocks.
