That last stone's lovely.

Stan was a bit peppery on the phone and he's finishing another book - on Northumbrian rock art - so we are to visit some of the Knarsdale stones early in the New Year.

He doesn't consider the holes that are 'drilled' to be cupmarked so I'll try and dissuade him from that view ! Please expect fireworks...

Why should drilled holes be placed in the same classification as cup and rings?
There doesn't appear to be any correlation between the two.
Do holed rocks occur with rock art ?
Most of the dating evidence for rock art comes from it's association with burial sites, apart from the holed cisk I can't see any other link.
I'm aware of the significance of holed rocks and have seen some excellent examples of holes in Dolmens from Russia to India, the oracle holes that occur around the Med are another example but I think it is taking it a bit far to say they should be classed along with cupmarks.
I gotta go with Stan the Man. Afterall Stan knows his shit better than anyone else.
