This is close to where I came in. I need to ring Stan up, about those cupmarked stones, in that valley. I've still not counted them - I'm proud to say.

Somewhere, back around the time of that thread (and I've searched back quite closely) was a link to a white witch in Northumberland who was using a holed stone for some of her ceremonies. There was some discussion of the corn circlers about that time as well...

Can anyone either find that link or name that stone ? I wonder *how many* holed stones are known in the country ? Is the twelve I've found in Bolton (three are broken) a large number ? I think I know what they were *for* (selling chisels) but doubt anybody would accept that explanation.

Sorry for subverting this thread - I'll post an image of one of my cupmarked stones, from the Knar, after this machine has been overhauled...

David - more holed stones, when I was last there I ran out of film so all of the stones aren't pictured. If you follow the link on the page it will take you to Pat's place and more detail on the stones

David,
not sure if it's what your looking for but if you use the search facility at the top of the page and type in 'rothbury' it has a thread that I posted on a similar theme.
