I was at a midsummer at Castlerigg a couple of years ago and it was a bit of a circus. My favourites are the cyclists that meet there every year in a riot of lycra.
Unfortunately I'll be on the briney sea this year but given a choice of Cumbrian circles to watch the sun rise from I'd opt for somewhere on high ground that takes a little, but not too much, effort to walk to such as the Cockpit or Oddendale.

If you do go to Castlerigg bear in mind that you won't get to see the sun until well after it's risen
