Hi folks, spent last night and all today at Derrynablaha and managed to find 7 panels with head scratching and leg work, and an 8th teenie weenie one shown to me by the sheep farmer who owns the land. I dont know which are already recorded and which may not have been as some were pretty obscure and small, had a look at the selection on europreart but I can't find a grid ref or gps co-ords that I can match my recorded ones with, are they not listed on this site? If so, is there an alternative database I might find co-ords as I'd like to add them with the correct numbers. http://www.europreart.net/cgi-bin/baserun.exe?_ses=E94fFFeEFFjB35487FBBC&_tar=_record&_act=396 this is one panel I found and I also found a cup & ring on the rock surface next to it.

I think the photos came out well, havent gone through them all yet but may have the makings of a weblog. The famous 'stepped' panel is just incredible! Had such a great day looking for this stuff, started at 9am and at 4pm I realised I hadn't anything to eat all day, this cup & ring hunting could be a serious condition :)

Can't offer much help me owld muckah. The dearth of online info regarding Irish open air RA is a source of frequent whingeing in the house of Hob. I usually pester FW for info.

Damn glad to hear you had a good time, I'm very much looking forward to seeing your pics.

Nice. Multiple side fill on long exposure can replace big lamp when used correctly at low angle. If you can't catch the light, take it with you.

More!

I only spent an hour or so there in the pouring rain. I didn't find much - just two panels.

Did yo find this one - http://www.megalithomania.com/show/image/4947 ?

I'm gonna have to head back down there. Hope you got some 10 figure grid references :-)

oooo I've not seen this website before... what area does it cover? (And don't say europe :P)

I doubt that there will be any here but I'm sure it will be of interest , havn't read myself .
"The Derrynablaha "shield" again " Shee & O ' Kelly .Journal Cork History & Archaeological Society ) 1971) 72-76

Prof. Emmanuel Anati had this to say about motifs from Derrynablaha "The anthropomorphic face is above the ideogram of circle -and-dot which are likely to symbolise fertility . Below the ideograms a male sexual organ is depicted .Further below there is a line , probably representing the standard pole of the spirit .Around the being there are several ideograms meaning "intercourse " or "penetration" .
