Silbaby

And so it begins.

Thanks for the kind remarks, but can I just clarify something, before this goes any further?

To say that "Full details will be published in a book about Avebury by Pete Glastonbury & Steve Marshall due for publication in summer 2011." is quite misleading.

I am indeed writing a very large Avebury Book with Pete Glastonbury but we will only be able to include these 'full details' if the archaeologists concerned are kind enough to give us them - which they obviously don't have to do...

There is though, more info about Silbaby in the November issue of 'Time and Mind' which will appear very soon. It's an article about the Silbury Sun Roll, written by myself & George Currie, with pictures by Pete. The article includes the first ever plan & dimensions of Silbaby and has already been referenced in 'The Story of Silbury Hill'.

I'm as excited as everyone else about yesterday's discovery but it's down to the EH archaeos what happens next.

You seem to be in the time warp along with a few others - welcome to TMA Steve, even though the reason for joining was to straighten the record. Hope all the hard work comes to full fruition, I will look out for the Time and Mind article.

best as ever

I would imagine that if EH considers it a good move after their archaoes have finished then they may prefer to publish themselves Steve. I hope not because I much prefer a bit of sensible speculation thrown in to the melting pot along with the certainties rather than a dry as dust 'factual' theory which appears to be difinitive at the time. Every time Silbury Hill is excavated a new 'understanding and meaning' of it appears...until the next time that is!! Good luck with the book, I look forward to reading it.

With the projected cut this project along with a revisit to Marden or Roman Silbury is surely highly unlikely?
