I am hoping to get out this weekend to have a good look at Silbaby close up!
Good luck! Do you know if anyone down there has looked through the old field-name listings of the place, or the old tithe maps?
I haven't Paulus, but the new Wiltshire and Swindon Archive Centre has just opened down the road from me and is probably worth a gander in the very near future.
I'll send them an email and see what they have.

Also Rhiannon seems to enjoy old maps and such and may have already looked into it.

I've collected together all the maps I can find on the area and it is not named.
One map has Barrow cut through by Roman rd on it, J Britton.
Another has The Girt Bank refering to the large bank that abutts the road next to it. AC Smith
The lane next it is known localy as Gunsight alley because there used to be a firing range there during the war.
One map has the spring next to it named as Swallowhead.
