As a proof try to find ANY reference to it anywhere else.
I have searched WAM and all the archaeo books about Avebury.
The nearest is that Dames mentions Waden spring and has a photo of the spring which he took standing next to the mound. He doesn't mention the mound at all.
While lots of people have Seen it no one has Investigated it before I started to last february.

I can see why the estemed Eds would like to change the name but as you have noted, the Great Bank may be something else altogether. Perhaps, for the time being, it would be better to keep the present name, however unsatisfactory it may seem to some, rather than mis-label it.
