Historians and a school have raised concerns about the sale of an historic hill fort in Penzance, which is to be put up for auction next month.

Lescudjack Hill Fort, the area's largest Iron Age settlement, is for sale through Fulfords Estate Agents in Penzance, with a guide price of £28,000.

I'll have it!
There's not enough fast food takeaways in Cornwall and I'm looking for a good site to build one!

Forget french dolmens or models of stone circles, looks like the bargain of the year has already been snapped up....

Councils to buy ancient hill fort

A deposit has been paid on the ancient monument
An Iron Age hill fort in west Cornwall has been sold for £45,000 to two local councils.
Penwith District Council and Penzance Town Council now plan to open it up for community use.

The fort at Lescudjack had a guide price of £28,000 and was due to be sold at auction. But the councils made an offer which was accepted by the owner.

The councils have now paid a deposit on the purchase and have until April to find the rest of the money.

Penwith council is planning to consult residents to find out what they would like to see on the site.
