I like the look of the stone also but it is unlike any sarcen I have seen around here (and I've looked at a lot!)
I will go and find it when the nettles start to die off.

I still reckon you've picked a heck of a challenge, to search for carvings amongst all those crazy natural patterns. I think your reservations about age could be well founded though.
