it looks a bit like the ripples from the mudstone found on the beach near Berwick, discussed a little while ago.

But it's extremely difficult to make any kind of fair judement from this picture, my brain is trying to make sense of the perspective when perhaps it is all artifacts from the copying method....

am i right in thinking it looks as if half of it has been broken off ?
imho looks man made , but could be any period . looking forward to the other pics .

From the original book.........."Sarsen about 5ft 10ins by 4ft 6ins....on two sides the stone is broken off...what remains of the frame is about 4ft by 3 ft...the waved markings about 11/2 ins broad...Dr Williams Freeman calls attention to their resemblance to the undoubted sculptures on the upright of a dolmen near Carnac(!)"
