what did you get, the little yellow eTrex?

A fine instrument. Saved us on the Preseli ridge, in 5ft visibility fog

there's a wicked program, GarTrip, that chats to it, without the expensive Garmin prog:
http://www.gartrip.de/

I took "mine" on the wireless demo yesterday ... I was by the window, plugging in a fading handheld to a power supply, when this kid from the class banged on the window from the outside, waved it at me, then disappeared off onto the playing fields ...

came back eventually

the best thing is that they are only ever accurate to no less than 5ft - you never actually reach your programmed destination exactly ... at Bulstrode Camp once, I climbed a tree and watched an overexcited Gibbonnette run around in circles, after "The Spot"

excellent fun - hurrah for technology!

Yes, the little yellow eTrex it is. A superb little beastie !!

The main problem here is we only have 1:50,000 maps so you can't put the cords in too accurately anyway.

I've started to buy the archaeological inventories for Ireland. They're going out of print so I have to be sharpish, lots of them already unavailable. Didn't know the buggers existed, but they are superb. They list all the sites in each county and give small descriptions and the 8 figure grid ref.

Bad thing is only about 8 counties still available from publishers out of 35 :-( ... Got to start looking in those old book shops.

Off to get that software and buy the link cable. Nice one RG!
