Are you all just being so lovely, so you can come and stay when we've finished renovating???????

I am having a few wobbles about it (leaving job I love, good money and town I've lived in for 10 years etc etc) but then I remember those beaches and hills, the desolate moorlands and the fact that you can see and feel the elements at all times and I realise it's a good idea. Oh yeah and there are a few interesting stones up there too!

I applaud your courage Vicster! You have more mettle than me: the cold and the wind would finish me off!

Do you have a job to go to on Lewis? Where will you look for a place to live? In Stornoway or over the west side? Or elsewhere? If you open a B&B, can we come and stay!?!

A few years ago I got this "out of my system" and lived in north Northumberland for 3 years... (OK it's not exactly as remote as Lewis but it was a big change for me, and I did it on my own! )

I've never had any regrets... unlike you I went for work reasons and then found myself in a glorious place I'd never hardly heard of before. I made the most of it and then came "home", having left a large chunk of my heart there. I go back whenever I get the calling!

I'm sure you'll have the time of your life.
