>> I'd learn a bit more chemistry if I was you.

I know enough to deal with this shit thanks. I thought you were referring to Hydrogen Power Cells, the sort that prototype cars run on, which is what most people think of when they talk of Hydrogen power. For these you have to produce massive amounts of hydrogen and then cool it to make it liquid. This takes energy and is not an efficient process.

Stable fusion will not happen in our lifetimes. I'd wake up and smell the coffee if I were you :-)

Your BBC link has nothing to do with fusion! It's about power cells.

"Hydrogen Solar says it has managed to convert more than 8% of sunlight directly into hydrogen with fuel cell technology it has specially developed.

For an energy source to be commercially viable, it must reach an efficiency of 10%, which is an industry standard."

10% efficient? FFS! Solar panels are better than that. And note that you are converting the Sun's energy into another form of energy. You are breaking the chemical bond in the Deuterium (the hydrogen isotope)using the Sun. Deuterium is naturally out there - 1:6500 atoms in relation to hydrogen apparently - but you still have to collect it, which presumably takes energy too. The best way is to split water and remove the oxygen. Oxygen is a toxin. If the atmosphere gets too rich in it we'll die. So what do you do? Burn it and release loads of greenhouse gasses? Kinda defeats the object.

I was referring to alternate energy sources and fusion power actually.
