Sorry can't help, but can advise not to go there.

I spent possibly the worst day of my life in the Shap area on a OU Geology field trip, 15th August, dressed for summer and it was snowing, lovely bit of granite though

Too late killer I was there a couple of days ago and loved it.
Don't let your experience put you off, just buy a big lovely coat and a wooly hat & glove combo.

Hehe another OU student... I really wanted to do the Geology course. I attempted it twice a few years ago - they may not let me try again!!
