Well I found the pollisoir, walked straight to it from Avebury. Never managed to find the cup marked stone though. Its like a graveyard for stones up there!

I walked from Avebury (national trust car park) up to the ridgeway, along to the polisher, through Fyfield down (past an abandoned cottage). Then I went to see long Tom and the Devil's den before returning to Avebury. Took me around 3 and a half hours.

Thanks for the info and help, I will have another go at looking for the cup marked stone in future. My wife wants to see them, so I'll take her to the pollisoir then try again on the cup marked :-)

Another thing I notice, is the pictures of the pollisoir already on this site have more grooves in the stone, I guess the rock must be wearing down.

Probably due to light particularly if you were there at midday .

It sure is! Good work on finding it - told you it was easy! ;) Good work also on visiting The Devil's Den - it's a cracking piece of work that, isn't it?

That cupmarked stone is difficult to find, and the location is difficult to describe! But it could be a good explore for some of us at the Megameet picnic if you fancy coming along! You'll not find a nicer and more diverse bunch of like-minded people. For more details, see the recently bumped thread. We usually try to visit one or more of the lesser known sites in the area... :)
