Slightly off topic, but the church at Tockenham very near to above has a "genii loci" stone stature in the wall by the porch. Its a roman healing god.
Yes, was there years ago after a tip-off by the vicar of Clyffe Pypard - well worth a visit. Didn't know about the wood in the stonework though, and didn't check for sarsens under the buttresses. Anyone going to Tockenham via Clyffe Pypard might want check out the church there; more sarsens under the buttresses than any other church I been to - there's a pic of one of them here -

It would be nice to think that it was a "sacred celtic tree", but probably it had saxon origins.
Seems to me that there is a whole history waiting to be uncovered about Wiltshire churches, and their siting on old stone/pagan sites. Clyffe Pypard is again in the magic prehistoric area round Avebury, about 6 miles away.
