Firstly, apologies for a typo in my original post - should have read 'Ancient Tracks' not 'Ancient Trackways' - have done a little edit (must have been slightly out-of-it on paracetamol).

Third and final episode about the North Downs Way, a well trodden part of the country but somewhere I have never walked. Interesting mix of prehistory at the start of the walk - a 3,000 year old production site of IA quern stones through more recent history, finishing at Down House home of Charles Darwin. Stopping off at the Medway Megaliths, the Whitehorse Stone and Kit's Coty on the way - not forgetting a visit to one of the oldest unpollarded oaks in the country. And more.
Loved it.

I thought that lobbing/wedging coins in the oak tree was a ridiculous thing to show.
And, of course, a pilgrimage has to be undertaken with a silly hat and staff.

By far the best bit was when Tony said "Imagine standing here with the sun glistening off your helmet".
I nearly spat my tea out.

These programmes are obviously lightweight and enjoyable for the odd snippet of info, scenery, and to see if its possible for Tonys belly to get any bigger etc but it'd be nice to see somebody attempt something like this with a wee bit more depth. I don't think that would necessarily alienate the casual viewer.

I'm getting to quite like Tony, to be honest; because he's the ordinary guy blagging his way through life, getting away with having no real, appreciable talent - e.g compare him to Neil Olliver as a presenter - but learning as he goes along whilst entertaining people, helping to open up a subject which many general viewers would have thought was 'not for the likes of us' a few decades ago. Good for him.
