No. That function was probably taken by the curricks. There would have been summer herdsmen in the higher pastures during the summer.

How can the function be fulfilled by curricks when there are no curricks on Stainmore/A66 corridor or along the route of High Street ?
Is there any proof that the majority of curricks are prehistoric ?
