I've never been to Achnabreck :-( ... but, from what I've seen and heard of it, it was the first place I thought of when I heard about Drumirril.

Does Achnabreck have a *very* significant and *very* sacred hill on the skyline? To the north would be nice. Drumirril is dominated by Slieve Gullion, the home of the hag, upon which is the passage tomb usually known as Callaigh Beara's House.

I'm not sure - it was a few years ago that I visited and back then I wasn't in the habit of taking on-site notes like I do now. Achnabreck is itself close to a hilltop, and its views look out to the north over the remarkable flatlands that are the Kilmartin valley. Perhaps Dunadd or the Barr are the hill you're looking for, though... I bet someone else knows.

You'd love it there, by the way, its a beautiful, peaceful place. It feels entirely removed from day-to-day life, just the sound of the wind in the trees...

(really gotta go now!)

Been looking at the OS map, and I'm pretty sure that the Barr is not visible from Achnabreck. Dunnadd may be visible to the west of North. If it is then it'll be in an unusual way, just peeping around or over other hills, or possibly cradled between them. You ask if its got "a *very* significant and *very* sacred hill on the skyline" - if Dunadd is on its skyline then this would more than fit the bill, as I'm sure you know!

Of course this is the place where the Irish Kelts are thought to have first come to Scotland, so you'd expect some parallels with Irish sites...

Exciting Stuff!
