those carvings on Blackford Hill look amazing Martin. stylistically the deer is very like the one at Turnalt Farm in Argyll:

Hiya Andy,
Aye- great wee site hidden away in the city.
I've emailed a contact in the RCAHMS to let them know I have some more info on the site (including pics, diagrams etc) as there is no mention of the hunter in the CANMORE entry.
I see the similarity to the Deer Stone carving, but that one is a lot more curving and flowing than the Blackford one,
