I've just read the Wittenham Clumps TMA entry, found and followed Rhiannon's link to the stunning painting.

In the write up on the information card in the Walker Art Gallery's version ('Landscape of the Moon's Last Phase') of this, it mentions that Nash did many paintings of the site towards the end of his life (using field glasses to bring it closer!).

I wondered if anyone knew of any more paintings by this artist of this site?

I have a little Penguin book on Nash published in 1944 in the Modern Painters series.
His Sunflower and Sun 1943 resembles the paining in the link.

I'll delete it tomorrow.

A good painter - and no relation to Graham, fortunately.

Here's a short note to say I've found out a lot more about the site in Halliwell, including its correct name - which is Toothells. So the site name will change shortly. The 184? map shows it (them) as 'Halliwell Hill'. Toothill's actually at the top of 63 steps, Barrow Bridge. (Another one) Got some photographs in the pipeline ...
