Ken took some flash pictures a while back, they didn't pick up the Milky Way motif - http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/62206/images/rathgeran.html

Would HDR do anything to that particular shot? I know HDR can help when you have sky and land in the picture, but the whole of the that image was evenly lit.
