If the gadgee's original plan of the circle is conventially oriented - with north at the top - then that central feature will have opened toward the southeast, and the midwinter sunrise. Which is what you'd expect. The circle will see very few winter solstices now that it's submerged ! Better drowned than destroyed, I guess.
